the real problem is that high volume sounds (especially bass) are transmitted through the structure of the building itself - the brickwork in walls, joists in floors, etc. In fact what happens is that the room itself becomes a resonating instrument. There's virtually nothing you can do about this cheaply. The only solution (which is what expensive commercial studios have to do) is to rebuild a new room inside the old room, completely suspended on special heavy-duty springs and rubber suspension. If your house is semi-detached or in a terrace, then you could be in real trouble with a loud band, because the noise will transmit all the way along the floor boards, rafters, chimney voids, walls, etc. into the neighbouring houses :lol:
